Retaining Walls

Improve landscape stability and visual appeal with expertly crafted retaining walls.

Retaining walls serve both functional and aesthetic purposes, preventing soil erosion while adding structure and style to your outdoor space. At Green Matters Outdoor Design, we design and install custom retaining walls using durable materials like natural stone, concrete blocks, and brick.

Our retaining walls are built to withstand the elements and provide long-lasting support for your landscaping. Whether you need a small decorative wall for your garden or a large structural wall for sloped terrain, we ensure proper installation with expert engineering and craftsmanship.

Beyond their practicality, retaining walls can be a beautiful addition to your yard, creating multi-level garden beds, seating areas, and stunning focal points. Let us design and install a retaining wall that enhances both the stability and beauty of your outdoor space.

Why do I need a retaining wall for my North Texas property?

Retaining walls serve several critical functions in areas like Fate, Wylie, and Rockwall:

Erosion Control: Preventing your yard from washing away during heavy Texas thunderstorms.

Structural Support: Protecting your home’s foundation or pool deck from shifting soil.

Creating Useable Space: Turning a sloped, unusable hill into a flat, functional lawn or patio area.

Aesthetics: Adding "curb appeal" and value with beautiful stone or masonry tiers.

How do you prevent a retaining wall from "leaning" or failing?

Wall failure is common in North Texas due to the "Black Gumbo" clay soil. At Green Matters Outdoor Design, we prevent failure through superior engineering:

Deep Footings: Ensuring the wall is anchored below the frost and movement line.

Proper Backfill: Using crushed stone (not clay) behind the wall to allow for drainage and reduce pressure.

Geogrid Reinforcement: For taller walls, we use soil-reinforcement grids to "tie" the wall back into the slope.

Why is drainage so important for a retaining wall?

Water is the #1 enemy of a retaining wall. If water gets trapped behind the wall, the pressure can reach thousands of pounds, eventually causing the wall to collapse. Every wall we build includes a comprehensive drainage system, featuring weep holes and perforated pipe (French drains) wrapped in filter fabric to move water safely away.
